Soccer-Bacon wars in tabloids ahead of Euro 2020 clash between England and Denmark
Denmark is a major supplier of bacon to the UK. The ad refers to when Vikings conquered England some 1,000 years ago and to England’s 1996 soccer anthem “Three Lions” when fans hoped that their national team would win their first major title since the 1966 World Cup victory. The infectious song, with its chorus “It’s coming home, it’s coming home, it’s coming, football’s coming home”, was written by pop star Ian Broadie and comedians David Baddiel and Frank Skinner ahead of England’s hosting of Euro ’96.

How the Lions are learning to live inside the South African bubble
The British and Irish Lions tour suffered a blow on Tuesday with the postponement of their weekend game in Pretoria amid an outbreak of Covid-19 cases in South African rugby that highlighted the growing third wave of infections in the country. The Lions were to play the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday but four of the local players, plus one official, tested positive and because of their close contact with team mates, all must isolate, leaving the Currie Cup champions unable to field a team.

All players arriving in Australia for the tournament earlier this year had to spend 14 days in quarantine before they were allowed out to play, and those requirements, designed to keep the new coronavirus out of the country, remain in place. Olympics-National records as good as gold for Afghan sprinters in Tokyo
Afghan sprinters Kimia Yousofi and Sha Mahmood Noorzahi have defied massive odds to be at the Tokyo Olympics, and setting new national records would be as good as gold medals for them, their athletics federation says. The runners, who hold the 100-metre records for Afghan women and men respectively, qualified for Tokyo under the universality quota, which lets a country send its athletes to the Olympics when they don’t have anyone eligible to qualify, provided there are slots available. An Afghan refugee born in Iran, Yousofi is competing in her second Olympics, but her journey has not been an easy one.
